A Handful Of… Michigan Artists That Are Cooler Than Mike Posner

I don’t like this guy.  At all.  My reason is to quickly follow.

The way he sings in a whisper makes me imagine a man holding his cat’s front paws and making it dance, while he cooed much to the feline’s dismay, “You think you’re cooler than me.”

Anymeow, Mike Posner is from Southfield, Michigan, and as much as I seek to support local performers making it big, this guy – not so much.

To be honest, I originally thought his name was Mike Poser, and in a way under that belief, I appreciated his irony.  Now he’s ironic in another way.

So here is A Handful Of local acts done good (not counting Motown, to make a point)… after the jump…

Eminem – The Way I Am

Kid Rock – Bawitdaba

Ted Nugent – Fred Bear

MC5 – Kick Out the Jams

Bob Seger – Rock and Roll Never Forgets

The White Stripes – Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground

The Verve Pipe – Freshman

Sponge – Plowed

Bliss 66 – Sooner or Later

The Suicide Machines – New Girl

The Von Bondies – C’mon C’mon

Anita Baker – Sweet Love

I hate to break it to you Sandy, but as cool as they are, Three Dog Night is not from Michigan. Sorry…

Whoa Whoa Whoa! TSM? TSM never really “done good”. They never really had air play or even video play, (we do not count their ‘self-titled’ release with the ONE video Mtv played “Sometimes I Don’t Mind”. ‘Real’ TSM fans blocked that album out of existence).

Moving on, The Verve Pipe? Cna someone name a song from their third, fourth, or fifth album? (“The Freshman” was on their 2nd)Plus is East Lansing considered local? “Local” as in Michigan?

Also Sponge? Bliss 66? My brother used to love those guys and they sucked balls. Mind you, this was almost 10 years ago but come on.

Whoa! Never said that, I am just saying that one song is not ‘done good’. I have never listened to him nor will I probably ever(not turning on the sound of my laptop at work, won’t happen.)

BTW where is Madonna on the list?….Just kidding, but in all seriousness where are The Romantics (actually from Detroit). Or for a (better) and good sketch, how about The Knack (though former in LA, DOug Fieger was from Oak Park). Even though they were a one-hit wonder, their song was ten times bigger than anything Sponge or Bliss 66 put out. (And yes, I have a huge dislike for those bands)
