The Silver Lining… #4 Was #1 On Oscar Night!

The 84th Annual Academy Awards occurred last night, and as the infamous they say:

Oh boy, did the stars come out!

But I noticed one thing that I’m sure ABC the Network wasn’t too happy about… there were a lot of NBC stars there!  Current ones!

Aside from someone obvious, like Alec Baldwin of 30 Rock (he was at the one of the special events… I think the one Oprah won at), you had plenty of Thursday night’s Must See TV Comedy Night Done Right:

Although they weren’t nominated for anything, Tina Fey of 30 RockEllie Kemper of The Office, and Maya Rudolph of Up All Night were there as presenters, and:

Oh boy, did they represent!

Three funny ladies in three serious dresses. Did they all go to posing school together?

Then when it came to Oscar nominations, you had Kristen Wiig of Saturday Night Live who was up for Best Original Screenplay:

Her "Bridesmaids" script had pooping in sinks! Oscar nod!

And then the big winner was Jim Nash of Community.  He won Best Adapted Screenplay for The Descendants:

He's the bald one mocking Angelina Jolie's earlier pose.

The best part is this is how he usually appears on Community as Dean Pelton:

These are just the tip of the Oscar's bald head!

So what does this mean ultimately?  NBC is consistently in last place of the four major networks, but they had the best showing at the Oscars.  That’s a sign of the massive amount of talent found there that dumb audiences aren’t finding!

CBS, which is in first, had only one star present… the Best Supporting Actress-nominated Melissa McCarthy of Mike & Molly:

She was hilarious on SNL, but I've never seen her show.

But she was in the movie written by  SNL  star, Wiig!

In closing, here’s what NBC’s owner, Comcast, might be saying:

Oh boy!  Oh boy!  Oh boy!

This is what I’m saying:

Oh boy, Community should be sitting pretty for a while now!

Coinkydink Or Coinkydonk? It’s Always (Almost) Child Star Directors In Philadelphia

If you’re not watching It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, you’re missing out.  In its fifth season, this FX comedy never fails to make me LOL… srsly.

(SIDENOTE: The overuse of LOL pisses me off, because very often, I don’t think people are really Laughing Out Loud.  GMS might be more accurate, as in, Gets Me Smiling.  Or TTWH – Thought That Was Humorous.  Or simply S, for S’a’ight.)

Anymilksteak, there’s a trend amongst directors on that show, and I wonder if that plays any part in its biting sensibilities.

POP QUIZ!  What do these guys (Matt Shakman, Fred Savage, and Jerry Levine) have in common?

I just gave you a clue.  They’re some of the directors on Always Sunny.  But as you can also see, they were all child(ish) actors.  Shakman was on Just the Ten of Us, Savage was on The Wonder Years, and Levine was in Teen Wolf, amongst other things (including a TGIF show on ABC that replaced Just the Ten of Us).

This leaves me to wonder… what are their sensibilities behind the camera?  Does the show seek out the directing talent of failed former famous Actors! because they bring experience?  Or does the show succeed because the directors are failed former famous Actors! (because writing has nothing to do with it, right… TTHW)?

(SIDENOTE TOO TWO: There is always a third scenario – the Actors! are simply following the career paths of those before them, i.e. Jodie Foster, Sean Penn, and the king, Ron Howard.  But that’s neither here nor there, nor Coinkydink nor Coinkydonk.)

Another of the show’s directors (and Actors!) is David Hornsby.  He got his start on the fake reality show (which GMS on so many levels), The Joe Schmo Show, and since then he’s had limited success until Always Sunny.  His co-star on that show fared a bitter better…

So let’s get down to brass tacks (a phrase I’ve been hearing more frequently, and that’s S)…

BONUS COINKYDINK OR COINKYDONK: Some of the previous CorC‘s flow into one another.  Sam Jones was in Smallville, which was produced by Jeph Loeb, whom wrote Teen Wolf which featured Jerry Levine.  Consider your mind blown…

Why Do I Get Butterflies In My Stomach Whenever I See Chris Elliott? (Some Kind Of Answer Below)

I’m nursing a bit of a ‘gover right now (y’know… shorthand for hangover), so I’m going to roll these out as best as I can.

First order up – Chris Elliott has a daughter, Abby.  Now it’s not weird that this guy has daughter:

And it’s not weird that I’m very attracted to her (her impersonation of Kirsten Dunst):

What is weird is there is a family resemblance…  Maybe that explains why I’ve been dreaming about Chris Elliott for all these years…

Anywhopper, the point of this post is that Abby is joining the cast of Saturday Night Live, as well as Michaela Watkins.  If any of Chris Elliott’s knack for oddball comedy has rubbed off on her (wait, that sounds gross), then SNL will be that much better for having her (and much easier on the eyes… goodbye crush on Kristen Wiig!)

The only good thing to come out of five “Scary Movies”:
